Summary:

When Ye Zun is finally released from his imprisonment in Dixing, he decides to make a new life in Haixing. It's away from the baggage of home that Ye Zun can heal his relationship with Shen Wei. Told entirely through third-person avenues such as emails, social media and documents.

Why I like this:

It's a very fun story about Ye Zun getting his life together and maybe helping Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan along the way, too. Featuring: chat messages, infuriating corporate emails, earnest emails from Shen Wei, less earnest but still very telling emails from Ye Zun, and app receipts. It's a clever blend of novel and drama, and you can have fun catching all the references.

Summary: A Ye Zun-centric vid, set to Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do.

Why I'm Reccing This: This is excellent. Wonderful. This is Peak Ye Zun, my favorite Ye Zun vid, this is the most Ye Zun vid in existence. I love the way the lyrics work, I love the bit about being the actor starring in the bad dreams, the way Ye Zun would absolutely conceptualize all his crimes as someone making him do them instead of active choices of his own, the timing of absolutely everything.

The clip choice, cuts, and main beat timing are all exquisite. The lyrics match the action excellently, especially for the bit where Ye Zun's impersonating Shen Wei. There are also a bunch of interesting parallels, e.g. Ye Zun looking around the Palace versus Shen Wei being led in by the Regent after waking up from his dirt nap.

Summary: AU - Zhao Yunlan in the past meets Ye Zun before he meets Shen Wei

Why I'm Reccing This: This is a really intriguing look at the Hallows spitting Zhao Yunlan somewhere else in the past so he meets Ye Zun first. I really enjoyed the characterization work – neither Zhao Yunlan nor Ye Zun is too trusting nor excessively bitter, and the fic walked the line excellently from start to end. The title also suggests a hopeful fixit future that was interesting to contemplate.

Summary: Ye Zun cannot say for certain if he's ever had a friend, but there is no doubt in his mind that the closest to it was Zhu Jiu.

Why I'm Reccing This: I was absolutely enchanted by this fic when I first read it, and it's stayed in my head since! It picks up on little canon details I hadn't noticed and builds a wonderful narrative of them, of Zhu Jiu's downfall into Ye Zun's arms and Ye Zun gradually growing closer to this new minion of his, and the twine of loyalty between them.

Length/Size: 75k
Characters/Ships: Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan, Ye Zun, SID team, Professor Zhou, Shen Xi
Rating: M
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Themes: Fix-it, canon divergence, established relationship, happy ending, politics
Summary:

The brewing crisis gets interrupted by yet another kind of alien turning up on the SID doorstep, this time to demand a rented spaceship back. Zhao Yunlan might not be responsible for the rental or the crash, but it is his jurisdiction – for that spaceship? Its interior is Dixing. And now he has to find a place to put all these Dixingians.

Well. The world isn't going to fix itself. Better get to work.

Why I'm Reccing This: It's self-rec amnesty day, and this is my magnum opus. It's where I poured in all my fix-it feels, and tackled things like what are the Hallows and why, why did the Dixingians and Yashou come to Haixing, and what the wider universe is like. It's also my happy place – where things might go wrong, and some people might be prejudiced, but in the end, the problems can be fixed and those who care about you will not be scared off just because you're not like them, after all. In these trying times, I hope this cozy fix-it can be there for you.

Summary:

Shen Wei stumbles across a lantern in the library that is always lit, sitting wholly out of place next to a window that allows in neverending Dixing light.

-

“Shen Wei…” the lantern says, and for a moment, his tone sounds fond, almost longing. Then the lantern continues in a jovial tone, “That is a good name.”

For some reason, Shen Wei starts at that, feels an odd jolt of deja vu.

Why I'm Reccing This: I haven't been reading as much fanfic as usual because I've been having trouble focusing (I'm sure many of you can relate). So when I pulled this one off my To Be Read list yesterday, I didn't know if I'd be able to get into it, especially with the direct, matter-of-fact style of the first chapter.

Boy, was I wrong. I was completely sucked in by the story, spending most of the rest of the day reading it and finishing it this morning.

Folks, this is THE fix it you want. It is, and I don't say this lightly, a masterpiece. Completely canon-compliant, taking place many years after the ending, yet it still manages not to lose the things that we so love the show for. Every question is answered (except one, which is clearly a 'man was not meant to know' question), every concern is addressed, and the triumph of human and Dixing ingenuity is completely plausible within the context of everything we know about the world. There are many hidden knives to stumble on along the way, lots of moments of pain and sorrow and horror and tears, but nothing that can't, in the end, be overcome by cleverness, determination, and love. The spareness of the language becomes poetry as more and more of the world is revealed.

The positivity, joy, and absolutely lovely descriptions and reunions throughout are exactly what I needed right now. They might be what you needed, too.

Summary: If Yunlan is going to learn how to make actual food that requires more effort than just boiling water and putting hot water into stuff, he’s going to have to take all the notes.

“Right,” he says to himself. “How hard can it be?”

He watches all twenty-two minutes and fourteen seconds of Chef Shen's video without fast-forwarding. When it comes to an end, he clicks on the replay button.

He ends up taking zero notes, and the only thing he manages to learn from the whole exercise is that Chef Shen -Shen Wei- is really fucking beautiful when he smiles.

Why I'm Reccing This: A new Guardian fan (ok it was [personal profile] elynross) recently said, and I quote: I'm finding that I really adore the AU versions of this universe, the "SW is a bartender/chef/son of a Dixing warlord," probably because it's an opportunity to explore and relish the characters without the inherent hurt and tragedy. I tend to agree with this and therefore beg members of this community to forgive me for always bringing the romantic tropey fluff stories for you to peruse. It's just who I am now.

One of sarahyyy's defining strengths as an author is their ability to write modern meet-cutes that always have a touch of both humor and poignancy to them, but are also exceptional at showcasing the real attractions and deeper connections that somehow pull two very different people toward each other. In other words, a subtle masterclass on How Can These Idiots Finally Get Together 101. In this AU both Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are social media celebrities whose paths inadvertently cross online, to the delight of their fans (and Zhao Yunlan) leading to - let's just say shenanigans at the individual, support team, and meddling-family levels. If Zhao Yunlan had a character theme it would be "thirsty for Shen Wei" and how sarahyyy maneuvers him through that particular dilemma in this alternate-universe life is a delightful ride from start to finish, with smile-inducing easter eggs from the canon universe scattered throughout for just the right feeling of oh yes, it's all of you people, again.

Summary: A Guardian AU inspired in part by The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Why I'm Reccing This: The creators bring this universe to life using a mishmash of political intrigue and characters that I personally find stay true to their canon values. Somehow, this series also expands on some of the loose ends of the drama, despite being set a universe away from it. The way the tensions between Dixing, Haixing and Yashou are explained, the injustice experienced by Dixingren under Zhao Xinci's thumb is reminiscent of their canon treatment. The unexplored politics of Guardian is something that has always appealed to me, and this story has that in spades.
