Community Description: | A 镇魂 | Guardian Fanworks Recommendations Community |
Welcome to Merit Brush Recs! We are a recommendations posting community for fanworks of all kinds (fic, vids, art, etc.) for 镇魂 | Guardian (both the novel and drama), related RPF, and other projects starring the lead actors, Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong. This includes commercials in which they play characters clearly separate from their own public personas.
If you would like to help us promote this comm, here's a beautiful banner for that purpose:

Just copy and paste the following into your own space:

Guidelines
1. You may use AO3's "share" template, similar templates from different sites, or the optional template provided below as the body of your rec, and add "Why I like this" to say something about the fanwork. "Why I like this" can be as brief or as detailed as you want.
2. Your subject line should read: Fanwork Type: Title of Work by Creator Name. If the fanwork you're reccing does not have a title, you can call it "Untitled [fanwork type]" (for example: "Untitled fanart by LovelyPlant") or give a brief description (for example: "Zhu Yilong portrait by LovelyPlant").
3. Only rec complete works. A person can rec a series that's still in progress as one rec, provided at least one work in the series is complete and posted in its entirety. The rec can link to the series page, if there is one, or to the first work in the series, provided it has a link to the next work in the series. (If you want to only rec one work in a series, but not the series itself, that's fine, too, as long as the work being recced is complete.)
4. No self-recs. There will be occasional self-rec amnesty events announced in advance.
5. Recs of derivative and transformative works based on or inspired by your own fanwork are permitted. For example, podfic of a story you wrote, fanart illustrating a story you wrote, a remix by another author of a story you wrote, etc. In the body of the rec, if it's not already clear from the title (or summary, if there is one), please mention that the fanwork you're reccing was based on or inspired by your own work.
6. All recced fanfic and podfic must be in English. Recs for English translations of fanworks in other languages are welcome.
7. You may rec fanworks during the anonymous period of exchanges, but after the exchange's reveal, please come back and edit your recs to include the creators' names. (Mods can't edit the body of your rec, so a mod can't do this for you.)
8. Always rec in a new post, not in the comments to someone else's rec post.
9.
merit_brush_recs is not a fanwork finder community. Posts that are not recs will be deleted, and all recs must include a link to the recced fanwork.
10. No commenting to trash somebody else's rec. We all have different tastes, and that's okay.
11. Tag your rec with the appropriate canon (drama, novel, rpf, not stated by creator, etc.), ship (or character, for non-ship fanworks), and type (fanfic, fanart, fanvid, etc.). If a tag does not exist, ask the mods to create it in your post.
12. If there is a ship tag, you do not need to tag the characters in the ship. You do not need to tag all the non-ship characters appearing in the fanwork unless you want to bring attention to particular character(s). For example, you might want to tag "character: da qing" in addition to "ship: shen wei/zhao yunlan" for a Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan fanwork where Da Qing appears prominently, to attract people interested in Da Qing. This is entirely optional and up to the reccer.
13. If there is no ship tag, there should be at least one character tag to identify which character(s) are featured in the fanwork. If you want to rec a non-ship fanwork that has no characters (for example, fanart of Shen Wei's office without anyone in it), please put a note for the mods at the bottom of the rec so the mods know the fanwork has no characters and no ships.
14. The "canon: blended" tag is appropriate when the fanwork fuses Guardian drama and Guardian novel canon. If you're not sure, you may tag the canon as drama, novel, and blended to cover all the bases and reach the audiences interested in these canons. You may also use the "canon: not stated by creator" tag if you're not sure which canon is appropriate.
15. If you have difficulties getting the tags to appear (there can be glitches with Dreamwidth's tags, especially on mobile devices), don't stress over it. The mods will check for untagged posts and add missing tags.
16. If you do not use another site's template or the optional template below, you must make sure that your rec still includes the title/short description, creator, canon, type, characters/ships, summary/detailed description (when applicable, for example when there is no title or short description provided), rating, warnings, fanwork link, and why you like it.
17. Rating and warnings do not need to be confined to AO3's systems, and you may be more descriptive, especially with unrated fanworks (for example, "Rating: suggestive but not explicit" or "Warnings: depicts consensual bloodplay").
Optional template you may use if the fanwork's site doesn't have its own template (Delete any inapplicable fields that are not listed as required in the guideline above):
Title/Short description: (If the fanwork doesn't have a title, you can use "Untitled" or provide a short description, such as "Shen Wei Portrait")
Creator: (Name or username on the fanwork's site)
Canon: (Drama, Novel, RPF, Blended, Not Stated by Creator, or Guardian-adjacent [with fandoms specified, e.g. Time Engraver, Detective L, Bai Yu Pizza Hut ads, Zhu Yilong KFC ads, etc.])
Type: (Fanfic, Fanart, Fanvid, Fansong, etc.)
Characters/Ships:
Rating:
Warnings:
Summary/Detailed description (optional):
Why I like this: (Here is where you say a little bit about why you like the fanwork you're recommending, or why you want other people to check it out. It can be as short as "I like the artist's use of colors" or it can be a few paragraphs about the author's skill with world-building and characterization.)
Fanwork Link(s): (If the fanwork is not already linked from the title)
Here's the code to copy the template:

You don't have to rec anything. You are welcome to hang out and enjoy checking out other people's recommendations. But why not tell us about your favorite works in these beautiful fandoms, and spread the love?
